Revista Epidemiologia e Serviços de Saúde (RESS) was present at ExpoEpi 2023

On November 7, 2023, the Editorial Committee of Epidemiology and Health Services: Journal of the Brazilian National Health System (Epidemiologia e Serviços de Saúde: revista do SUS – RESS) met in Brasília, during the activities that preceded the 17th National Exhibition of Successful Experiences in Epidemiology and Disease Prevention and Control (ExpoEpi).

The Annual Meeting of the Editorial Committee (Reunião Annual do Comitê Editorial – RACE) brought together members of the RESS Editorial Core Group, after three years of online meetings, to discuss the journal’s activities and indicators in 2023 and its goals for 2023.

The opening of the meeting was attended by the Health Ministry’s Secretary of Health and Environmental Surveillance, Dr. Ethel Leonor Maciel, who confirmed her support for the journal, and by the Director of the Department of Strategic Articulation of Health Surveillance, Dr. Guilherme Werneck, who highlighted the importance of the RESS as a vehicle for disseminating epidemiological knowledge.

During the meeting, the journal’s indicators for the year 2023 and perspectives for the year 2024 were presented by the Acting Coordinator of the General Coordination for the Development of Epidemiology in Health Services, Maryane Oliveira Campos, by the Editor-in-Chief of RESS, Cynthia Braga, and by the journal’s Scientific Editor, Barbara Reis-Santos.

One of the highlights on the meeting agenda was the presentation by Dr. Carlos Castillo-Salgado, Professor of the Department of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, who addressed the importance of scientific dissemination in Latin America. The researcher highlighted the relevance of making research results accessible to the general public and the need to promote science as a tool for the advancement of society.

The meeting was not limited to formal presentations. There were also moments of open discussions, in which participants were able to share their views on the journal and identify areas that require improvement. This constructive exchange of ideas strengthened the Editorial Committee’s commitment to excellence and the continuous improvement of the RESS.

The online transmission of the event allowed members of the RESS Editorial Core Group from across the country and abroad to have access to discussions and presentations, promoting remote participation and dissemination of the information discussed.

The RACE was a success. At the 17th ExpoEpi, it brought together leaders in epidemiology and public health to collaborate with the constant evolution of the RESS, consolidating its role as a reference in the dissemination of scientific knowledge to improve the services of the Brazilian National Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde – SUS).

In addition to the RACE, members of the RESS team were present daily in the ExpoEpi stand area, promoting the journal and highlighting its differences, emphasizing the relevance of the publication for the Brazilian National Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde – SUS). In addition to distributing informative material about the journal, the RESS team was available to answer questions, exchange ideas and establish partnerships. The journal’s active participation in the event contributed to strengthening ties between health professionals and highlighting the importance of scientific dissemination in the epidemiological context.
