Epidemiologia e Serviços de Saúde achieves A2 classification in CAPES Qualis Periódicos

The beginning of 2026 marks another important milestone for the SUS journal. Epidemiologia e Serviços de Saúde: revista do SUS (RESS) has been ranked in the A2 stratum of the Qualis Periódicos by the Evaluation Committee of the Public Health area of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), recognizing RESS’s excellence and contribution to scientific communication in the field of public health.

Established in 1998, the CAPES Qualis system is the main instrument for evaluating scientific output linked to graduate programs in Brazil. Journals are classified into eight strata (A1, A2, B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, and C), with A1 and A2 being the highest levels, restricted to approximately one quarter of all evaluated journals. Journals in the A strata are recognized for their scientific excellence, relevance, and international reach within each field of evaluation.

The assessment is based on multiple criteria, including article quality, publication regularity, editorial board quality, diversity of authorship, dissemination and visibility of the journal, and indexing. In addition to highlighting RESS’s scientific quality, this new classification attracts more authors and researchers and reaffirms the relevance of the articles published by the journal.

We share this achievement with all our authors, reviewers, editors, and readers, whose collaboration ensures that RESS fulfills its mission as the SUS journal.
