Public call for associate editors of RESS

Epidemiologia e Serviços de Saúde: revista do SUS (RESS) announces a public call for the selection of new Associate Editors to join its Editorial Board, in accordance with its Statute.

Objective

To select researchers with proven academic experience to join the team of Associate Editors, collaborating in the editorial process and the review of manuscripts submitted to RESS.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Hold at least a doctoral degree in epidemiology, public health, or related fields;
  • Have relevant scientific production in the journal’s area of focus, preferably with three or more articles published in the last five years in a scientific journal that follows ethical principles of scientific publishing and is indexed in SciELO, Web of Science, or Scopus (preferred);
  • Have previous experience with reviewing or editing scientific journals in the field (preferred);
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional commitment to the principles of open science, research integrity, and best practices in peer review.

Responsibilities of the RESS Associate Editor

  • Handle up to two (2) new manuscripts per month;
  • Monitor the submission of reviewers’ reports;
  • Record the associate editor’s recommendation in the editorial management system (ScholarOne) after receiving the reviewers’ reports, ideally within three (3) days, or no later than five (5) days;
  • Strictly adhere to deadlines and procedures established for the efficient functioning of RESS’s editorial process;
  • Uphold ethical principles and research integrity when carrying out editorial activities;
  • Participate in RESS meetings and events.

Selection Process

The selection process will consist of five (5) stages, as described below:

1. Application: Interested candidates must fill out the application form available at https://forms.gle/DdGihx6evnWhiub47, from June 2 to June 23, 2025.

2. Candidate selection: Candidates will be evaluated based on their CVs for alignment with the requirements listed in item 2 of this announcement, and will be notified of the selection results via email by June 30, 2025.

3. Acting as RESS reviewer: After an online training session on how to prepare reviews, candidates will be assigned up to ten (10) manuscripts within their area of expertise for review between July and September 2025.

3.1 Each review will be evaluated for quality and completeness, and feedback will be provided to candidates to support scientific improvement.

3.2 Academic recognition of this activity, depending on the reviewer’s consent, will occur through: (i) publication of the review as a “Peer Review Report” in RESS, with a DOI; (ii) submission of data to the Web of Science Reviewer Recognition Service; and (iii) issuance of an automatic certificate for each submitted review.

4. In-person training in Brasília: Candidates with positively evaluated reviews will be invited to participate in an in-person training session for RESS Associate Editors. The training will be 20 hours long and will take place in Brasília from September 22 to 24, 2025. All travel costs (transportation, accommodation, and meals) will be covered for the candidates.

5. Appointment as RESS Associate Editor: Those who attend the training will be invited to sign a commitment agreement and will begin serving as Associate Editors of RESS, with their names included in the journal’s editorial board.

Candidates who complete stages 3 and 4 will receive a 40-hour extension course certificate, covering the manuscript review and in-person training stages.

Results

The results will be published on the journal’s website, and selected candidates will be contacted via email.

Final Provisions

  • Participation as a RESS Associate Editor is voluntary and unpaid.
  • The initial term is one year, renewable based on performance evaluation.
